- China Mobile plans to deploy over 800 additional TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) base stations in 2009, with an aim to provide full network coverage in the Shanghai World Expo Park Area by 2010, the China Daily reported on February 26. Coupled with 1,259 base stations built in 2008, the company had constructed a total of 3,779 base stations by year-end 2008.

Meanwhile, the company is also projected to kick off the trials based on TD-LTE (TD-Long Term Evolution), a TDD (Time Division Duplex) version of LTE in the Expo Park by 2010, paving the way for the development of 4G mobile standard in China. According to the same source, TD-SCDMA subscriber base had reached 75,600 in Shanghai by year-end 2008.

Furthermore, with its TD-SCDMA service coverage across 38 China's cities, China Mobile pledged to reach a cumulative 100 million potential customers by year-end 2011. the company, according to another report by the China Daily, is expected to have additional 10 million subscribers by year-end 2009.
